This week on the Pure Nintendo Podcast, Jemma, Kirk, and Trev discuss the revamped classic that is Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door.

Last week, we caught up on Tears of the Kingdom on its anniversary. This week we get into something new yet old as Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door celebrates an anniversary of its own. Twenty years on and the revamped Switch version brings new characters, battles, and quality-of-life improvements, not to mention the updated visuals and audio.

We also talk about the recent news that Atari has purchased Intellivision. If you were gaming in the ’70s or ’80s, you were likely to have played one of these systems. Kirk and Trev in particular give their thoughts on this situation, which is touted to be the end of the long-running “first console war”.

Dave the Diver has recently received some DLC, which brings Godzilla into the mix. Plus, we’ve been playing a classic NES title, a new visual novel, and continuing our foray into Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes.

Thanks for listening, we love putting these shows together, so let us know your thoughts! And don’t forget to leave us a review to help support the channel.

It’s the weekend and that means it’s game time! So, what’s happening on the eShop? There’s a bit of a theme this week with Paper Mario’s revamped version of The Thousand-Year Door along with the puzzle-adventure stylings of Paper Trail.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door was originally released in 2004 for the GameCube. The revamped Switch release comes just in time for its 20th anniversary, bringing updated visuals and audio along with new characters, battles, and quality-of-life updates. The color and fun of the original remains intact, though, so whether you’re a new or old fan, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. We’ll be giving our first impressions on this week’s Pure Nintendo Podcast, so stay tuned!

What’s better than one paper-based outing? Two, of course. Paper Trail continues the paper theme with a puzzle-adventure title set in a foldable paper world. You play as the aptly named Paige, folding the world to solve pupzzles and discover secrets.

There’s also some exciting DLC for Dave the Diver this week as Godzilla joins the story. This free DLC features all-new stories and battles, and it’s available now. What makes a good game even better? Well, Godzilla, of course. We’ll be sure to check it out and let you know our thoughts on the Pure Nintendo Podcast as well.

Meanwhile, the Minecraft anniversary sale continues, plus there’s special Paper Mario activities to check it out. In short, it’s another busy week!

There’s plenty more happening so check out the full list of new releases below and let us know which games you’re playing this weekend.

This week on the Pure Nintendo Podcast, Jemma, Kirk, and Justin revisit Tears of the Kingdom in celebration of its anniversary.

Last week, we talked about Nintendo’s latest sales data announced during their annual fiscal report. This week, we begin with a look at sales for Tears of the Kingdom and how that compares to BReath of the Wild and other titles and series.

We delve further into Tears of the Kingdom, with Kirk and Jemma having jumped back into the game this week. Where are we at? What have we achieved? And how do we feel about it 12 months on?

We talk about our favorite moments in the game, along with what we think could be improved in future iterations. Plus, we talk about the future of the franchise, the lack of DLC for Tears of the Kingdom, and much more.

We end the show by chatting about a couple of non-Zelda games we’re playing, including Please Fix My Road and Ikki Unite.

Have you been playing Tears of the Kingdom recently? Let us know your thoughts on Tears of the Kingdom. How do you feel about it on its anniversary?

Thanks for listening, we love putting these shows together, so let us know your thoughts! And don’t forget to leave us a review to help support the channel.

This week on the Pure Nintendo Podcast, Jemma, Kirk and Trev delve into Nintendo latest fiscal reports, during which Nintendo President Furukawa mentioned the Big N’s next console.

Last week we talked about undersea adventures, Zelda news, and ESRB ratings. This week is HUGE, with the first official word from Nintendo that a Switch successor will be announced within the next 10 months. It’s an exciting time to be a Nintendo fan, and we discuss our thoughts for the next 6 months on the Switch.

We also discuss last week’s ESRB rating, which has now been confirmed as a July title called Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition. It features over 150 challenges across 13 NES games, giving players a chance to compete for glory.

We’re also playing a lot of games this week, from the feline adventures of Little Kitty, Big City to JRPG goodness of Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. Plus Trev is playing a fishing RPG called Moonglow Bay, while Kirk is also playing the interesting-sounding, retro-inspired Goliath Depot.

What’s happening on the Nintendo Switch eShop this week? Minecraft is celebrating its 15th birthday with 50% off three titles until June 4. Plus, Braid gets an update and Lorelei takes us on a puzzle-adventure through Europe.

Happy birthday, Minecraft! It’s hard to believe this blocky series has been around for 15 years. It’s easy, though, to see the influence Minecraft has had on gaming culture. Many people grew up with this crafty world, and this month marks the perfect time to celebrate all things Minecraft. With that in mind, there are some decent discounts on existing titles for the Switch, so if you’ve been waiting for the perfect time to grab yourself a bargain, this is it!

Meanwhile, Lorelei is a non-linear puzzle affair that presents a third-person adventure about illusions. It sounds like a mysterious, somewhat creepy outing, with an enigma just waiting to be solved.

Remember Braid? If not, that might be because this 2008 title didn’t appear on a Nintendo console. Thankfully, this anniversary edition sets things straight by heading to the Switch. This revamped platformer sounds has been given quite the refresh, with completely new graphics and hours of commentary from the developers.

Did you know it’s been a whole year since Tears of the Kingdom was released? It might be hard to believe so much time has passed, but Nintendo is celebrating by providing a special digital wallpaper and keychain reward. Check it out online via the details below. Oh, and be sure to tune into the Pure Nintendo Podcast on Monday when we revisit Tears of the Kingdom, too.

With that, let’s find out what else has appeared on the Switch eShop. Which games are you playing this weekend?

This week on the Pure Nintendo Podcast, Jemma and Kirk talk about a couple of water-based titles out this week, including Another Crab’s Treasure and Endless Ocean: Luminous.

Last week, we revisited Jemma’s trip in Japan, including a discussion about the amazing Super Nintendo World. This week, we take things under the ocean to discuss a couple of recently released titles set underwater.

Endless Ocean: Luminous is the third in the series, presenting a relaxing scuba-diving adventure with over 500 creatures to catalogue. Meanwhile, Another Crab’s Treasure may look cute on the surface, but it’s actually a tough Soulslike experience featuring difficult battles and plenty of collectibles.

We also delve into the altest Zelda movie news, with director Wes Ball giving fans hope that he’s taking it seriously as a fan himself. Plus, keen eyes online have spotted a new ESRB rating for something called Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition. Is this a new Remix-style game coming our way soon?

Mimi the Cat: Mimi’s Scratcher is a short and sweet puzzle game in which you help Mimi get to her cat scratcher. As you guide Mimi on the path to her scratcher, you will find different obstacles depending on the level you’re on. The puzzles are fairly easy, though there were a couple that took me a couple tries to complete.

Most of the puzzles involve arranging boxes in a way so you pass them, stack them, or climb them. At the end of each puzzle is a cat scratcher that can be on the main path, a box above it, or higher. If it’s floating a box or two above, this is where you’d need to stack boxes to reach it.

Other than this, there isn’t a whole lot to Mimi the Cat: Mimi’s Scratcher. There are 50 or so levels, all of which follow the same theme, just with a couple of different elements. While they do increase the difficulty, there’s not a whole lot of progression in this game. There’s no story to follow or points to earn. However, getting to see Mimi’s excitement as she reaches her cat scratcher adds its own level of achievement.

The controls for this game are simple; you simply move Mimi around with your Joy-Con stick. The beginning of the game gives you a tutorial of the controls, which you can pull up at any time. There are some extra features—such as hints or changing the background color of the minimal graphics—that help add some more elements, but, overall, the game remains pretty basic.

However, Mimi the Cat: Mimi’s Scratcher is still enjoyable and cute. It’s perfect for those who like adorable cats or simple puzzle games they can play while watching TV or listening to a podcast. Though it didn’t keep my attention very long, I did enjoy playing it with something on in the background.

Last week, we got into the pros and cons of originals vs. remakes. This week, we discuss some amazing titles heading to the Nintendo Switch in physical format via Premium Edition Games.

Other highlights include Tadpole Treble Encore, Scarlet Tower, and Curse Crackers: For Whom the Belle Toils. There’s a lot of great content to get into!
