Nintendo has quietly introduced the ‘new’ Nintendo Switch to retailers this week and we were able to get one yesterday. If you’re looking for one yourself, call around to some local retailers and ask if they’ve received new shipments of Nintendo Switch systems. Be sure to also ask if these new Switch units have an all-red box–that’s how you’ll know the difference. If you just call retailers and ask if they have the ‘new’ Switch in stock, they’ll probably think you’re talking about the Switch Lite which doesn’t come out til Sep. 20. When I asked about ‘recent shipments of Switch systems’, then I got the information I needed.

Nintendo has some details on the battery life of this new Nintendo Switch listed on their website: https://www.nintendo.com/switch/buy-now/. They claim you can get up to 5.5 hours of Breath of the Wild in handheld mode and up to 9 hours with less-taxing games. This may not be an instant-buy for most people, but if you’re looking for more battery life on-the-go without sacrificing the ability to dock your Switch with your TV, this model is your best bet over the handheld-only Switch Lite.
