The Nintendo 3DS and Wii U eShops are shutting down on March 27th. If you’re looking to prolong the life of these devices after the doors close permanently, now’s the time to fill them up with games. And wouldn’t you know it; KEMCO has a few suggestions!

The prolific publisher of retro JRPGs has reduced the price of 16 games—two for Wii U and fourteen for 3DS—by 50%. Fans of retro gaming have surely played at least a few of these, but here’s a great opportunity to grab a few you may have missed.

It’s worth noting that most of these games are still available on systems that aren’t shutting down—including the Switch—but not at these sale prices. The full game list is below (with handy links to their eShop pages, where possible).

We’ve reviewed many of these games here at Pure Nintendo, and you can search for the title of interest to see what we thought. Many of them are quite good, so don’t pass up this opportunity to prepare your old Nintendo systems for a few new adventures.

The Nintendo eShop has been updated with the latest games ahead of the weekend. This week’s Nintendo Download includes some exciting content, including the return of the popular Yo-Kai Watch series, as the localization of Yo-Kai Watch 3 makes its way to the 3DS. On the Switch, there’s the friendly FPS Away and thriller Observer, as well as the fairy tale of the Liar and the Blind Prince.

Check out the full list below and let us know what you’ll be playing this weekend.

Nintendo 3DS

  • YO-KAI WATCH 3 – Mischievous beings known as Yo-kai are everywhere, and it’s up to Nate and Hailey Anne to befriend, battle and solve problems with them. Follow two parallel stories and unravel the mysteries behind strange sightings while meeting more than 600 Yo-kai and using the new 3×3 grid battle system to strategically dish out or dodge attacks. The YO-KAI WATCH 3 game is available on Feb. 8.

Nintendo Switch

  • The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince – Plucked straight from the pages of an ancient fairy tale, The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince tells the story of two lonely hearts brought together through a mutual misunderstanding. Transform between the wolf and the princess to solve puzzles and evade traps, collect flowers and petals to unlock fragments of memories, and weave through the dark and dangerous forest to guide the prince toward a cure. But be warned … an all-seeing forest is no place for a blind prince. The Liar Princess and the Blind Prince game is available on Feb. 12.
  • Away: Journey to the Unexpected – Welcome to a feel-good FPS – a colorful adventure combining action, negotiation and rogue-lite elements. Play as a kid that is neither a hero nor a warrior. Choose your path through the levels, uncover the lighthearted story and above all, recruit allies. All the wacky and powerful characters you meet can be played in first person, and it’s up to you to find the right answers to get them to join your team.
  • Observer – The Observer game is a cyberpunk detective thriller set in Krakow, Poland, in the year 2084. The world lies in ruins, with corporations seizing power after the fall of governments. You do their bidding. No lie will remain hidden from you, as you hack into the minds of those you interrogate. When your past catches up with you, you must act on your own and unravel the mystery of your son’s disappearance.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa spoke in a recent interview with Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, a Japanese publication, providing an interesting synopsis of software sales on Switch, and how Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has flown into the hands of excited gamers.

Within the brief exchange, the President exclaimed how the Switch is experiencing the fastest software sales of any Nintendo home console. He then went on to explain that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has already sold an impressive 5 million copies in the first week of its release worldwide.

Reassurances that the twilight years of the 3DS are not over yet were provided, citing how the fact that it is light, affordable and has excellent portability as selling points for the 8-year-old handheld system. While this was roughly translated, it does provide an indicator that the 3DS might sticking around for a while yet.

Going forward, Shuntaro Furukawa sees Nintendo apps on smart devices as an income pillar and that he hopes that smart devices will be home to some hit apps from Nintendo.

Nintendo has announced some new records set this past weekend over Thanksgiving, as US Nintendo sales top $250m during the five-day period.

The Nintendo Switch actually set two new records from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday: it became the best-selling Nintendo console in US history for that period, surpassing even Wii system sales. The Switch also had its best-selling week ever in the US. In fact, according to Adobe Analytics, the Switch was among the most-purchased items online on Thanksgiving Day and the overall top-selling video game product online for the Black Friday-Cyber Monday period.

According to Nintendo, strong demand resulted in shoppers buying more than $250 million in Nintendo products from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday. This total accounts for video game systems like the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS family, as well as retro systems like Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition and Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition. It also includes all Nintendo-produced games and accessories. Total US hardware sales for Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday increased 45% over the same period in 2017.

Nintendo is quick to point out that this news doesn’t even take into account that they still have one of this year’s hottest games yet to be released, with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate hitting the Switch on December 7. The highly anticipated game has already broken a couple of records before even becoming available: it’s not only the most pre-sold Nintendo Switch game of all time, but also the most pre-sold Super Smash Bros. game ever in the series.

Here’s the full list of sales data released by Nintendo today. Unless otherwise noted, the following data covers November 22 to November 26, and is specific to the US only:

Nintendo Switch

  • Nintendo Switch hardware sales grew 115 percent compared to the same period in 2017.
  • Lifetime sales of Nintendo Switch, which is entering only its second holiday season, have reached more than 8.2 million units.
  • Sales of first-party games, including digital downloads, topped 1 million units Nov. 22-26, beating 2017’s totals by 78 percent.
  • Nintendo Switch games Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! have hit combined U.S. sales of more than 1.5 million units since their Nov. 16 launch.
  • Super Mario Party surpassed lifetime U.S. sales of 1 million units, becoming the fastest-selling game in the Mario Party series and the fifth million-selling first-party Nintendo Switch game in the U.S. alone, joining The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the WildMario Kart 8 DeluxeSuper Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2.

Nintendo 3DS</b

  • Thanks in part to strong Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday sales, the total installed base for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems has hit 22 million.
  • Additionally, after 12 months of availability, lifetime combined sales of the Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon games crossed 2.2 million.
