Tetris 99 gave the battle royale genre a run for its money when it released earlier in 2019. Furthermore, its success paved the way for future content. This has come in the form of events, updates, and even a DLC.

Most commonly, though, the developers have supported the game through events. Most of these events have added new themes to Tetris 99. The Tetris 99 12th Maximus Cup is bringing a Ring Fit Adventure theme. However, similarly to previous events, you will need to collect at least 100 event points to unlock the in-game theme. The event will begin on 4/24 (Friday) at 12:00 a.m. PT and last until 4/27 (Monday) at 11:59 p.m. PT.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has justifiably received an overwhelming amount of support since its release on March 20th, 2020. Unfortunately, that support didn’t extend itself with the Bunny Day event because of the egg spawn rate. However, it seems Nintendo is righting their mistake by providing us with a heap of new content on April 23rd.

This free update will include favorites from prior entries in the series as well as new content. Series favorites’ returning include Jolly Redd’s art and Leif’s Garden Shop. The museum is also being expanded to include an area that you can display your art that you get from Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler. In terms of events, Animal Crossing: New Horizons fans can expect International Museum Day, May Day Tour, Wedding Season, and the previously announced Nature Day. Surely, there will be plenty of other events eventually, but these are the events that we have exact details about.

  • Leif’s Garden Shop – Nature-loving Leif will regularly visit players’ islands to sell his flourishing assortment of foliage, including shrubs and flower seeds. These decorative items will help make any island paradise a little greener.
  • Jolly Redd’s Treasure Trawler – After downloading the free update, Jolly Redd will occasionally show up in his boat to sell in-game art, as well as furniture with unique colors. Like in previous Animal Crossing games, players will have to figure out which art pieces are real and which are fake. After purchasing genuine art, players can donate it to the island museum to open an art gallery, which will display all types of donated pieces, from paintings to sculptures.
  • Nature Day (April 23-May 4) – During the Nature Day period, special Nook Miles challenges will be available that focus on nature-inspired goals, such as planting trees and watering flowers.
  • May Day Tour (May 1-7) – In the first week of May, players can use a one-time May Day Ticket at the island airport to head out on a limited-time tour to an island that looks different than the usual mystery island tours. A special visitor who looks familiar might also be there…
  • International Museum Day (May 18-31) – To celebrate International Museum Day, players can take part in a Stamp Rally. After receiving a special stamp card, players can enjoy viewing fish, insects and fossils while collecting stamps at the various museum exhibits to earn an in-game reward.
  • Wedding Season (June 1-30) – During a nuptial-themed June, players can visit Harvey’s island to meet the married couple Reese and Cyrus, as well as help arrange and take anniversary photos with them in the wedding-picture studio. Players will get wedding-themed items as a token of their gratitude.

Recently, it was confirmed that Crysis is getting remastered and released on the Nintendo Switch. Crysis was originally released for PC and last-generation consoles, and it was very demanding at the time in terms of graphics and performance. However, with the improved system components in the current-generation consoles, it should hopefully be less taxing. Even though Crytek hasn’t announced an exact release date, I suspect we won’t have too long to wait until Crysis Remastered sees the light of day.

The remaster is also being co-developed by Saber Interactive (The Witcher 3: Complete Edition, Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered, World War Z, Vampyr, and Call of Cthulu) which is good news because they’ve proved their worth as a phenomenal porting studio for the Nintendo Switch. The remastered version of the game will feature improved graphics and optimizations for current-gen consoles – including high-quality textures, improved art assets, temporal anti-aliasing, depth fields, particle effects (where applicable), motion blur, and more!

If you didn’t play Crysis when it was originally released by EA (it seems like Electronic Arts are picking up their slack with Nintendo Switch games now), the game is a first-person shooter.

Here are some more details about Crysis:

  • An epic story thrusts players into an ever-changing environment, forcing them to adapt their tactics and approach to conquer battlefields ranging from newly frozen jungle to zero-gravity alien environments
  • The high-tech nano-suit augments your abilities on the battlefield in real-time – Enhance their speed, strength, armor and cloaking abilities to approach situations in creative tactical ways
  • Blow the opposition away with experimental weapons like the TAC launcher, discover alien technology and utilize custom ammunition from incendiary-tipped rounds to tactical munitions that can silently put foes to sleep
  • Lifelike enemy AI challenges players — assess a situation and approach it strategically, to be proactive & not reactive in the fight
  • Battle a horrifying alien species in a true Zero-gravity environment, as players adapt to moving in Zero-G, contending with the recoil from their weapons and more

Unfortunately, when Disco Elysium launched there was no version of the game for Nintendo Switch. This became an even sadder reality when Disco Elysium received glowing praise from critics and won several awards at the 2019 Game Awards and the BAFTA earlier this month. However, recently, the game’s art director Aleksander Rostov mentioned that the game would be coming to the Nintendo Switch ‘soon’. This was mentioned in an interview with the BBC.

Disco Elysium Disco Elysium Disco Elysium

For those unfamiliar with Disco Elysium, it is a role-playing game where you take the role of a detective. The gameplay emphasises character building over combat, though. The game has you interrogating characters, cracking murders, or for the more troubled, accepting bribes. The game has a variety of different skills and clothes to help make your detective stand out. Honestly, Disco Elysium seems like it’ll be an excellent addition to the Nintendo Switch game library if/when it does come to fruition.

The long-awaited Nintendo Switch system update 10.0.0 was just released and brought a couple of nifty features. Unfortunately, themes and folders aren’t the features I’m referring to. Despite bringing along a welcomed accessibility feature (button mapping), some people, like myself, wish this update included some of the more fun features (e.g. themes and folders) considering ten is such a huge milestone. But at least we can now change our profile avatar to Flick from Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

Nintendo Switch System Update

Here are the full patches notes for the Nintendo Switch system update 10.0.0:

Added a bookmark feature to News.
This feature allows you to bookmark your favorite news items.

  • A maximum of 300 news items can be bookmarked.
  • An internet connection is required to view bookmarked News items.
  • News items that are no longer available cannot be viewed, even if they were bookmarked.

Added an option to transfer software data between the system memory and an SD card.

  • Users can now transfer downloadable software, update data, and DLC from the system memory to an SD card (and vice versa).
  • Note that save data and some update data cannot be transferred to an SD card.

Added an option to remap the controller buttons.

  • Analog stick and button configurations can now be changed for each paired controller.
  • Custom configurations can be saved as favorites in System Settings > Controllers and Sensors.
    • Custom configurations are stored on the Nintendo Switch system.
    • Configurations can be customized for the following controllers: Joy-Con (L), Joy-Con (R), Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Button configurations can also be customized on the Nintendo Switch Lite system.
    • This feature is not available for other controllers.
    • On each system, up to five favorite custom configurations can be saved for Joy-Con (L), five for Joy-Con (R), five for Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Five configurations can also be saved as favorites for Nintendo Switch Lite.

Added a new section in User Settings for Play Activity Settings.

  • The options for “Display play activity to:” and “Delete Play Activity” have been moved from Friends Settings to the new Play Activity Settings.

Added new selections to the lineup of user profile icons.

  • Select from 6 new icons from the Animal Crossing: New Horizons game for your user.

Nintendo Switch System Update

General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

What features do you want Nintendo to add to the Nintendo Switch operating system? Are you hopeful that themes and folders will eventually be in an update? We’d love to read your thoughts in the comment section below or on our various social media pages!

Fans of the Burnout series, like myself, were really excited two years ago when EA announced that Burnout Paradise would be getting the ‘remaster’ treatment. However, unfortunately, Nintendo Switch fans were left in the dust with only Origin (EA’s PC/Mac service), Xbox One, and PS4 owners able to burn their heart out in the remastered version of Burnout Paradise. Although that wasn’t an issue for me (a multi-console and PC/Mac owner) and it was more-or-less expected at the time. It was one of many indicators that Electronic Arts was sadly not taking Nintendo’s newest console seriously. However, recently, even though Electronic Arts isn’t Nintendo Switch’s biggest supporter, they announced Burnout Paradise Remastered for the console. It’s awesome that we’re finally seeing another EA game on the system that isn’t FIFA-related.

Burnout Paradise

Burnout Paradise Remastered for Nintendo Switch, similarly to the other versions, will include the original game and its eight expansion packs. All of this content makes this package a real bang for your buck. Especially with the inclusion of the “Big Surf Island” DLC which expands the game world.

Burnout Paradise

For those unfamiliar with Burnout Paradise, it’s a high-octane and destructive open-world racing game set in Paradise City.

Burnout Paradise

Burnout Paradise Remastered improves upon the original game by delivering increased visual fidelity and maintaining 60 frames-per-second gameplay. The remastered version of this cult-classic racing game is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch later this year but no exact date has been given yet.

Claptrap — start bootup sequence… Borderlands Legendary Collection is now coming to the Nintendo Switch.

It’s official 2K Games – a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive – loves the Nintendo Switch! They’ve released several games for the platform, and now they’re bringing their biggest hitter – the Borderlands series. In the past, we’ve received their annual releases of NBA and Civilization VI but it seems they’re wanting to expand their catalogue of games available on the beloved hybrid system. Alongside 2k’s announcement that the Borderlands Legendary Collection is coming to the Nintendo Switch, they also revealed that the XCOM 2 Collection and Bioshock Collection are Nintendo Switch inbound.

Borderlands Legendary Collection

The Borderlands Legendary Collection includes Borderlands 1, 2, and the Pre-sequel. Borderlands 2 is my personal favorite! If you haven’t played any of these games, now is the perfect time to pick them up, and if you have and you’re like me, it might even be worth purchasing them again. The ability to play this series on the go is going to do this collection wonders! Unfortunately, if you were hoping it’d include the recently released Borderlands 3, it doesn’t. That being said, the prior games are all of the greatest quality and are what defined the looter shooter genre.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R08Bxbr9Tq0

If you aren’t too familiar with the Borderlands series, here’s an overview of the Borderlands Legendary Collection:

Get three times the mayhem, three times the loot and three times the action with the Borderlands Legendary Collection on the Nintendo Switch, which contains:

  • Borderlands®: Game of the Year Edition: The co-op shooter-looter that started it all, crammed with content and enhancements. Equip bazillions of guns as one of four trigger-happy mercenaries, each with unique RPG skills. Take on the lawless desolate planet Pandora in pursuit of powerful alien technology: The Vault
  • Borderlands® 2: Play as one of six Vault Hunters attempting to liberate Pandora from evil mastermind and corporate CEO Handsome Jack. Make new friends, arm them with a bazillion weapons and fight alongside them in a relentless quest for revenge and redemption
  • Borderlands®: The Pre-Sequel: Play as six all-new character classes while carving a path of destructive mayhem across Pandora’s never-before-seen low-gravity moonscapes with all new moves, weapons, and vehicles! Fight alongside future megalomaniacal tyrant Handsome Jack, while preventing the destruction of Pandora and its moon
  • Play all three games on the go with friends: Each features local two-player split-screen co-op play and support for up to four players online

The Borderlands Legendary Collection releases on May 29th, 2020 for the Nintendo Switch.

Join the Ring Fit Adventure musical festivities!

Recently, Nintendo shadow dropped a Nintendo Direct Mini. Although the Direct Mini didn’t reveal too many Nintendo games, it did showcase some upcoming updates for their games. These updates were for games such as Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Ring Fit Adventure. The update for Ring Fit Adventure is musical-themed.

Unlike the updates teased for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the update for Ring Fit Adventure went live immediately following the Nintendo Direct Mini. So, you can get moving to the beat right away!

Ring Fit Adventure Musical

The update for Ring Fit Adventure includes two noteworthy features. The features being touted by Nintendo are a musical-themed game mode and an in-game female voice counterpart; the days of listening to a male voice continuing to encourage you to keep exercising are gone.

The brand new game mode will include several songs from other popular Nintendo games, such as Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Oddessy, as well as some from Ring Fit Adventure.

Will you be participating in the Ring Fit Adventure musical festivities? If so, we’d love to see pictures of you moving to your heart’s content! Editor Update [April 14th, 2020]: Echo is scheduled for release on all platforms April 14th, 2020.

Overwatch’s 32nd Hero has been confirmed!

After a long drought of substantial content such as heroes and maps, Blizzard has finally confirmed that Echo will be the next character joining the expansive roster. Unfortunately, there’s still no news about an upcoming map, but a new hero is better than nothing at all.

Currently, the brand new character, Echo, doesn’t have a known console release date. That being said, if history is any indicator, then Nintendo Switch fans can expect to be able to get their hands on the brand new hero within the next month. However, if you can’t wait for that long and are an owner of the PC version of the game, in the meantime you can test out the new character on the public test region server (PTR). Hopefully, this character is a good one, though, because it’ll be the only one for a while; as the developers concentrate on Overwatch 2.

“Yes, currently Echo is the last hero coming to standard Overwatch. The focus for the next couple of heroes will be on Overwatch 2,” said game director Jeff Kaplan.
